Morning After Blues...

October_07_241

No, we didn't drink too much, but we definitely partied too hard. We had Peanut's birthday party and our annual Hallowwen Bash on the same day. That's right. Two parties in one day. Another of Claire's ideas that sounds so much better in my head than in real life. I think it is really sweet that my husband goes along with my wacked out ideas, but this was honestly my wackiest. I've done parties that were a day apart, but never a two-fer. And never again. I am reformed. That is one bad idea that won't be revisited.

Now don't get me wrong, we had fun at both events, but every square inch of our house and backyard is in shambles. We had 20 childeren and at least that many adults in our home and yard eating caramel apples, powdered donuts, candy, cupcakes, hot dogs, and chili. Most surfaces in the kitchen are sticky or crumb-y. We have done 6 loads of dishes since noon yesterday and have filled both our trash can and recycle can to over flowing. And Peanut has spread her toys all through the house. Tread carefully, my friends.

There are some great pictures of the Halloween party which will have to wait until I find my camera. It may be days before it resurfaces in this mess...

This picture was taken about three hours before the San Diego fires began last Sunday. October_07_101We went in the morning to the park and had lunch out.

By the time we returned to our hotel room and had a rest before dinner, smoke filled the sky. There was enough ash in the air that we could taste it. Being from Northern California it was especially eerie because we have never experienced anything like that. By lunchtime on Monday most of the area shops and restaurants were closed because of the fires. Monday afternoon we boarded our plane home and had a bird's eye view of several of the fires as we flew over them. October_07_142

We have had a some family members lose thier homes and my sister in law and the three kids were evacuated from Camp Pendleton up to Sacramento to be with us. Hopefully their home is untouched at the end of all this.

Peanut is 2!

October_07_187 And apparently when you are two you are also waaaay to cool for ice cream. Look at that face! While we were singing to Peanut and her cousin (who will be three Saturday) she kept looking at everyone like we were all a bunch of idiots.

Pajamas For Peanut Part 2 of 3

September_07_376 This is the second pair of Jammies that Aaron's mom made for Peanut, and probably my favorite. I'm not sure if they are from a vintage pattern, but they look like they could be, don't they?

Peanut is at the stage of toddlerness where she won't sit still for a picture so we tricked her bey getting her to stand on daddy's lapwhile I snapped a few pictures really fast. She thought it was pretty cool getting to stomp all over dad.

Finished Collages

2007_064

This one is bound for our kitchen. The others are for my Etsy shop and can be seen here. If they never sell I don't think I'll mind. They'll find a home around here somewhere.

Real Inspiration

Magazine ads are getting less annoying and much more inspiring. I was flipping through the pages of my latest Home Companion and before I knew it the first three pages I dog eared were advertisements. The magazine was cool, but the real inspiration came from the ads!2007_040 2007_035 2007_036 2007_034

I have been dying to make fabric candy since I saw them here ages ago. It would be a great Halloween or Christmas decoration, so I have time if I don't get to it right away. The Moda Home ad, besides being in my favorite colors, would make a great scrapbook page. Oh wait. that would mean I have to scrapbook... I just love all doodlebug ads even if I never do a thing in them. The recess ad looks like it would be a cool collage prject for my kids room one day. One day...

Candy Colors

Part of the stash of goodies I made for Handmade Parade (and didn't get to sell because I was sick) were these barrettes. I love them. Each one is different, which makes me happy. Deep down I am Punky Brewster (actually not that deep down) and since mismatched socks aren't as chic as there were in 1989 (yup, I rocked that), I'll go for the mismatched hair bows. Though if you know me personally you know that 9 times of 10 I don't match on a daily basis. And yes I know it. I rock that, too. 2007_095

Handmade Parade recap

Well, Handmade Parade went well. Unfortunately, last week I was crazy crazy crazy sick, so past the little collages I showed not much else got done. Perhaps I jinxed myself. Being so sick also made it a challenge to coordinate the event in general. I ended up unable to have my own booth there :( and having to go just long enough to make sure everyone else was ok before heading back to bed.

It was a ton of fun and I met lots of talented people. I learned some more do's and dont's and am stocking it away for next time. Live and learn, right? Check out oodles more pictures on my flickr. I took terrible pictures, though. Check out Amy's flickr to see great photos of the whole day. Rains_cupcakes

The other plus (I suppose) of not having a booth is that I can put what I did make on Etsy. So, check the shop all week to see what I put up since I'll upload things all week.

Punkins

So says me, so it must be true. We don't carve pumpkins round here. We paint them. None of us have the patience at this point to hack up the pumpkin. Someday, but not right now. We let the kids loose with some paint the other day and here is what they have done so far. Aaron and I will draw faces on them later. September_07_352 September_07_350
