I know the die hard Austen fans think he is the most wonderful and most romantic of all the Austen men, but frankly I don't get it. I have seen both movies and read the book several times and have always come away slightly annoyed at him for being such a punk all the time (cuz, you know, he is totally a real person). Not my ideal of man, that is for sure. Die hard Darcy fans, please enlighten me!
I watched the second half of P and P on tivo last night and was further reminded that I don't get it and h e even was beginning the extraction of the stick up his butt attitude he carries in the first half of the movie. Not a real likable character. Is it more that Colin Firth plays Darcy and therein lies the attraction or do women really think he is that great? I can get it if it is a Colin Firth thing. But if there is something truly romantic and wonderful about a guy who loves you in spite of his better judgement and your lowly family connections, I gotta say I just don't feel it.
My friend Faith loves Mr. Darcy. She has a Darcy streak herself, so I just think she's seeing the similarity and loves him for it. Right, Faith? I think that picture of Colin Firth is hilarious. I know, I just spoke Mr. Darcy blasphemy, but there you go.
